Congratulations, you almost got a job with the current economy. Now all you have to do is ace this interview. The most common question asked in an interview is why do you want to work here, a question that will break or make an interview, also an easy question to score points and stand out too. The last thing you ever want to reply to them is something along the lines of “I saw your ad, I’m qualified for it, so I applied for it and see where it takes me, which company are you calling from again?” That’s an instant fail, it will immediately put you in a bad position.
The interviewers are looking for people that show interest to their company, someone that at the very least bother to research on them beforehand, not someone that is vaguely aware of the company existence. Let’s put it this way, if you are going to work there, you are going to be a representative of the company, you want to show them that you are interested in this position, in their company, that you are enthusiastic to help them, this particular company, to grow. In addition to showing your love, you want to be memorable, don’t show an answer that is too general; instead, tell them why you want to especially work for them. You can try the following example, do build from it:
- “A few of my colleagues work with your company previously, they all have only nice things to say about it!”
- “I have always admired your company’s attitude towards charity, especially at the charity run earlier this year. Watching the CEO joining in is simply refreshing!”
- “You company have an excellent product brand and a long list of achievements, I want to be part of the family that contributes to the success!”
So when your interviewer asks, “Why do you want to work for us?” keep it simple, focused and neat, nothing too overwhelming for the interviewer. Pretend like you are on a date with someone, you don’t want to bore them. With that being said, good luck with your interview and hope you get your job!
