All of a sudden I’m having really sharp pains in and around my belly button. This has happened before but not since I was pretty little. It wouldn’t worry me usually, but this pain is really sharp and I’m afraid something is wrong! What causes pain in your belly button?
belly-button
stomach

If your belly button hurts, it could be a sign that you have a urinary tract infection or other infection that you need to see a doctor for. If you have other symptoms in the general area involving your stomach or urine then it’s probably a good chance it’s one of these issues. They can give you antibiotics to clear up the problem.

Sometimes when I eat too much it causes my belly button to hurt. Eating too much food can put pressure on the area around your stomach, which makes your belly button hurt. It can hurt from your stomach not liking something you ate too, especially if you have food poisoning.

Your belly button hurting could be a sign that you have a hernia, which should be treated or helped so it doesn’t get any worse. The stomach is the most common place to develop a hernia because so many of your organs are stored there. Extra tenderness in this area and a really concentrated pain in your belly button are good indicators that you should see a doctor.

If you are pregnant as I was, my answer to your question “why does my belly button hurt” may be helpful.
When I was pregnant and going through big growth bursts, it made my belly button hurt. All of that pressure from the womb can press out and cause pain wherever your belly is expanding. If you’re feeling a really intense pain and know you’re pregnant then you might want to see a doctor in case something is wrong.

I was on a medication for a stomach ulcer once, and I noticed that I started having pain around my belly button. Sometimes medications you take, especially for your digestive tract, can have side effects like that.
