Lately I’ve noticed that when I comb my hair, a lot more comes out than usual. Could this be stress related? I have had a lot of life transitions lately. Maybe it could be a vitamin deficiency?

It’s completely normal for some strands of your hair to fall out when you brush it. The increased hair loss could be related to the changes in the seasons. Other possible causes are stress or protein deficiency. Here’s a brief list of common causes of hair loss:

1. Hair styling and products

Wearing your hair in a braid or ponytail too tight can cause it to fall out.  If this is the case, you may notice strands falling out around the edge of your hairline, particularly surrounding the face and forehead. Treating your hair with lots of dies and curling irons can also cause hair loss. However, if you change the way you treat your hair, your hair will most likely grow back.

2. Stress

Hair loss can be caused by physical and emotional stress. Blood loss, high fevers, and surgery, can all cause enough physical stress to make your hair fall out. Childbirth can cause a few months of hair loss following the delivery. Regarding psychological stress, the link is not as defined, but many people lose some hair during periods of intense psychological stress.

3. Nutritional Deficiencies

The most common nutritional reasons for hair loss are zinc and iron. However, there is reason to believe that lacking fats, copper, selenium, biotin, or vitamins A, C, D, and B12 could also be a factor.

4. Medications

Pharmaceuticals can come with many side effects, including hair loss. Everyone knows Chemotherapy causes hair loss, but here are some other medications that might make you lose some hair:

  • Thyroid medications
  • Beta blockers
  • Antidepressants
  • Certain oral contraceptives
  • Anticonvulsants
  • Anticoagulants

Not everyone who takes these medications will experience hair loss, as drugs affect people differently.

5. Hormonal Changes

Changes in hormones can cause you to lose hair. For example, after birthing a child or during menopause, a woman may lose some hair. For men, hormonal composition alters as they age, which can also cause hair loss. Male pattern baldness is a genetic condition.

6. Thyroid disorders

One of the most prevalent hormone-related causes for hair loss is disorder of the thyroid hormone. Having either too much or too little thyroid hormone can cause hair loss. However, the hair loss is often reversed once the thyroid disorder is treated.

6. Lupus

Hair loss is one of the symptoms of lupus, a very serious autoimmune disease. Hair loss associated with lupus is usually patchy and followed by lesions on the scalp. Additionally, some medications that treat lupus can also cause hair loss.

7. Other Medical Conditions

There are other medical conditions that can lead to irregular hair loss, including:

  • Liver disease
  • Renal failure
  • Inflammatory bowel disease

Certain skin conditions such as dermatitis and psoriasis, when found on the scalp, can also lead to hair loss and restrict growth.

Why is my hair falling out? So for your question, you can see your doctor about your symptoms and talk about the potential reasons behind your hair loss, and find a treatment that works for you. You may also try to use egg yolk to condition your hair. Some people say it is effective. Here is the link:
