Starbucks is one of those companies that were founded at just the right time in the right place where there was a high demand for specialty coffees, and this has greatly influenced their success.
It first opened in Seattle in 1971, and when Howard Schultz joined the company in 1982, it began to grow into the success that it is today. His marketing vision was spot on when specialty coffees became hugely popular in the Seattle area. Before them, there weren’t many chains or specialty coffee shops, so Starbucks was able to bring something new to the market. As one of the first of these kinds of shops, it had plenty of room to grow into the hugely successful franchise that it is today.
